A combination of nail color and pad color after 6 weeks is an indicator of final adult coat color.
Coat Colors:
For a Roan dog:
Base coat is always Brown (brown can be reddish brown to very dark brown, Lilly was reddish brown and Hugo is dark brown))
True Roan adult the base color is brown with white hairs dusted in coat. (See Lucky or Hugo)
Ticked roan the base coat is brown with white spotting (ticking). (See Lily or Mia, doth are Roan ticked)
For Brown/White Plated (B/W):
Base color is always white.
True Brown/White plated adult the base color is white with brown plates, with no ticking at all. (we do not have any true B/W dogs)
A Ticked B/W dog the base color is white and the ticking is brown (see Annabelle, Bode and Luna)
Heavily Ticked B/W dog the base color is white with heavy amounts off brown spotting (ticking) similar to a heavily ticked roan dog
Nail and Pad color is a determinant of adult dog color.
Heavily ticked Roan and heavily ticked B/W dogs look very similar. Often the heavily ticked B/W is miscolored by many breeders as Roan. If any nails are white or if there is any pink on any pad it is a B/W ticked dog.
ALL brown nails and all brown pads will be Roan or Roan Ticked as an adult. Look at the coat to determine if there will be any ticking or true roan.
ALL white nails and mostly pink pads will be a true B/W plated dog, white base coat with brown plates not ticking at all.
A combination of brown and white nails or any pink on pads will be a white base coat (B/W) with brown plates and ticking. Some can be so heavily ticked many consider them Roan ticked But they are not.
Ticking can be white spotting or brown spotting depending on base coat color (Roan ticked or B/W ticked)
We do not guarantee a pup color and is color is generally a low on the check list secondary consideration for which pup is right for the client
If someone only wants a specific color we are not the right source.
